BOSTON - Playoff MVP Bill Ranford capped five games of glory with 29 saves to help the Edmonton Oilers defeat the Boston Bruins 4-1 for their fifth Stanley Cup championship in seven years.
Ranford, winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoffs most valuable player, limited his former teammates to eight goals for a 1.35 series goals-against average as the Oilers won the best-of-seven series 4-1. Ranford's average was the lowest in a best-of-seven series since Montreal's Rogie Vachon's 0.75 in a four-game sweep of St. Louis in 1969.
